What is debt-to-income?

DTI asks: “What percentage of the gross monthly income entered here is matched by the recurring debt payments entered here?” Both sides must use the same monthly time basis.

“Gross” means before income tax and payroll deductions. The remainder shown by the calculator is therefore gross income after only the listed payments—not take-home pay or disposable income.
