Lock the Distance Before Dividing the Clock
World Athletics identifies 42.195 kilometres as the standard marathon distance. The calculator uses that fixed length, not a rounded 42 kilometres or 26 miles. When mile markers are requested, the same course is converted with the exact international-mile relationship, leaving a final partial-mile segment between the last whole marker and the finish.
The entered hours, minutes, and seconds become one total duration. An even plan assigns half of that duration to each half-distance and draws a straight cumulative-time relationship. Every displayed marker comes from the continuous plan; the finish is explicitly set to the original goal so individual clock rounding cannot make the rows drift away from it.

Even 50/50
Places half the total time before halfway and half after it. Equal time share over equal distance produces one average pace throughout the mathematical model.
Faster second half 51/49
Spends 51 percent of total time in the opening half and 49 percent after halfway. The two-point shift is a transparent preset, not a personalized negative-split recommendation.
Faster first half 49/51
Allocates 49 percent before halfway and 51 percent afterward. It illustrates a positive split without claiming that fatigue will follow that exact curve.
Turn the Table Into a Race-Day Reference
- Choose the marker system on the course
Use kilometre rows for a kilometre-marked event and mile rows for a mile-marked one. Converting mentally during the race invites comparison with the wrong checkpoint.
- Write cumulative clock targets
A cumulative time is easier to compare with an official marker than a single-segment split. Retain both so a delayed start or missed marker can be understood later.
- Allow operational tolerance
GPS devices can read long, runners do not trace the shortest possible course line, and aid-station or crowd delays are uneven. Do not chase a few displayed seconds with an abrupt surge.
Overlay Effort and Conditions Separately
Clock splits cannot see temperature, humidity, wind, elevation, surface, turns, congestion, illness, or training history. The heart-rate zone planner may add one estimate of physiological intensity, yet heart rate itself changes with heat, fatigue, medication, and hydration. Neither page certifies that a target is safe or attainable.
Hydration and fueling are individual event-planning questions, not corrections that this table can calculate. The water-intake reference provides general context but cannot prescribe a marathon fluid plan; both too little and excessive fluid can be dangerous. Use race guidance and qualified sports-health advice for a personal strategy.
Keep the Finish Target in Its Proper Role
- Test a proposed pace progressively in training instead of treating a generated table as proof of readiness.
- Review the event's official course, start procedure, timing mats, cutoff rules, and aid stations; this site is not affiliated with the organizer.
- Slow or stop for chest pain, fainting, confusion, loss of coordination, severe breathing difficulty, or other alarming symptoms, regardless of the planned row.
- After the event, compare actual cumulative times with the plan to understand execution. Do not rewrite the target table and call it a prediction that succeeded.
