The 2025 transition changes the average, not the score scale

ACT introduced the enhanced test online in April 2025 and states that the English–Math–Reading Composite applies to all ACT testers beginning in September 2025. Each entered section value remains an official whole score from 1 through 36. For a current sitting, add English, Math, and Reading, divide by three, and round the average to the nearest whole Composite. Science no longer belongs in that denominator, even when a student elects or is required by a testing program to take it.

That date boundary matters when reviewing an older PDF. A legacy Composite printed before the transition averaged English, Math, Reading, and Science. Recomputing only three legacy sections on this page creates an enhanced-style comparison; it does not reproduce or invalidate the historical four-section number on the official report. Keep the original report beside the worksheet whenever dates span both blueprints.

One enhanced administration

A Composite summarizes English, Math, and Reading earned together. It is useful when a recipient focuses on a complete test date or when a student wants a faithful snapshot of one sitting.

Best subjects across administrations

The current Superscore uses the highest eligible English, Math, and Reading values. ACT says those highs may include scores from legacy and enhanced events, but this worksheet does not create the official MyACT Superscore report.

Optional measures outside the Composite

Science still has a 1–36 section score and can join Math in a separately reported STEM score. Writing has its own reporting. Neither field is accepted here because inserting either into the average would silently restore the wrong formula.

Rounding is visible, while raw scaling remains unavailable

With three integer section scores, the unrounded mean ends in a whole number, one-third, or two-thirds; an exact half cannot occur. Showing the decimal still helps explain why 32.33 becomes 32 and 32.67 becomes 33. Do not round each subject, because official reported subjects are already integers, and do not substitute percent-correct values such as 78 or 84 for 1–36 scaled scores.

Raw-to-scaled conversion depends on the particular ACT form and its official scoring materials. This calculator has no form identifier, answer key, or raw conversion table, so it cannot estimate an English, Math, or Reading scaled score from questions correct. Its strongest use is auditing an existing set of reports, catching a four-section-versus-three-section mistake, and documenting which dates supplied the best subjects.

Use the ACT aggregate as one application datum

A calculated 33 does not decide how an institution will evaluate the applicant.

Review the college’s current superscore and testing policy before sending reports. ACT notes that institutions choose how to treat multiple scores, and a receiving college may inspect the source administrations included in a Superscore report.
For a two-section sum on the 400–1600 scale, use the SAT reported-score calculator; an ACT Composite and an SAT total should not be compared by matching their visible numbers.
