Translate levels through the skill XP curve before subtracting
OSRS levels are not evenly spaced. The experience required for successive levels grows on the game's published curve, so target level minus current level cannot be multiplied by a constant. The planner converts both level selections to their threshold XP values; when exact current experience is known, use it so progress already earned inside the present level is not discarded.
The relevant gap is target XP minus current XP. A target must be higher than the starting point and cannot exceed the supported skill cap. The well-known observation that level 92 is approximately halfway to level 99 illustrates how misleading a linear level count would be, but the actual table—not that mnemonic—controls each threshold.
Round the method count upward once and retain the overshoot
Training actions are discrete even when XP per action is not a divisor of the remaining gap.
- Verify effective XP per action
Use the selected buildable, contract, flatpack, repair, or other method's current XP after any applicable modifier already included by the page. Do not add the same outfit or bonus twice.
- Divide the exact XP gap
The raw quotient may be fractional. It describes how many equivalent actions would supply exactly the missing XP, not a count that the player can perform.
- Take the ceiling
Round upward to the next whole action. Standard rounding can leave the account below target, while rounding every intermediate quantity can accumulate a larger error.
- Show planned XP and overshoot
Multiply whole actions by effective XP per action and subtract the original gap. The positive remainder explains why the plan finishes beyond the exact threshold.
Materials, GP, and time belong to the selected method snapshot
Material bundle
Multiply the declared per-action material amount by whole actions. A bundle label can represent planks or a combined recipe, but every item included must be documented outside the arithmetic.
Action-linked GP
Cost per action should already reflect the price source, material mix, servants, rewards, and assumptions relevant to that method. Add a separately entered fixed cost only once.
Player throughput
Actions per hour depends on route, banking, menus, latency, device, attention, mistakes, and experience. The resulting hours are a scenario estimate rather than an in-game timer.
Cost per XP
Cost divided by planned XP describes the chosen whole-action plan. Cost per required XP uses the smaller target gap and can be higher because the last action overshoots.
A price table is evidence with a timestamp, not a permanent constant
The OSRS Wiki materials calculator explicitly uses changing Grand Exchange prices. Record when the values were checked and whether the method assumes buying finished planks, converting logs, using a servant, receiving contract rewards, or another route. A later market move can change total GP without changing XP per action, while a game update can change the method itself.
Compare alternatives under the same current XP, target XP, price timestamp, and realistic throughput. A cheap method and a fast method answer different preferences; the calculator reports their consequences but does not select a best route or account for opportunity cost unless you enter it in the chosen method assumptions.
Carry only the relevant quantity into another planning page
- For the seven-skill player combat formula, open the Combat-Level Formula Calculator. Construction XP does not increase the combat level calculated there.
- For recipe cycles, machine clocks, per-minute item flow, and ordinary-building power, use the Production-Line Clock and Power Planner. Machine capacity is continuous before installation, unlike whole training actions.
- To add the estimated session duration to a schedule or combine separate durations, use the Time Calculator after preserving the entered actions-per-hour assumption.
The plan neither buys materials nor guarantees a training pace
