FedEx explains dimensional weight as a comparison between package volume and actual scale weight. Review the official dimensional-weight guidance for measurement and rounding instructions, then use a divisor only when the quote, service guide, connected platform, or applicable agreement supports it. A familiar divisor is not automatically valid for every packaging type, market, unit system, or contract.

Measure the finished outer package at its greatest points and keep actual packaged weight separate. The worksheet can display the unrounded dimensional comparison and the greater value, but that is an audit aid rather than a carrier billing decision. If carton geometry is in doubt, remeasure and recompute length × width × height while preserving the original exterior lengths.
